Fragrant lemons and limes bring the flavour of sunshine to cold Autumn and Winter days.
These beautiful citrus brings bright flavour to both savouries and sweets, and if you don’t happen to have your own tree, they are easily forage-able from neighborhood fence lines and starting to get cheaper at markets. If you ever see an over abundant lemon or lime tree in someone’s front yard, don’t be afraid to knock on the door and ask for a few; I used to be terrified of doing this, but have been pleasantly surprised by a generous attitude and a bag full of delightful lemons.
If you’re building up a stockpile of citrus like I am, here are some great ways to use them.
Also, to extend the life of limes and lemons, zest them and keep the zest in a container in your freezer and juice them and freeze the juice in ice cube trays.
